Sensitive teeth can be very painful. They can have quick pains from something you eat or ongoing pain from being sensitive. Your teeth become sensitive from the hard outer layer of your teeth also know as the enamel coming off. Your tooth’s dentin (softer middle layer) is then exposed. Once that is exposed openings in your teeth known as tubules connect to your nerves. When air, food, drinks, etc touches these tubules you will feel severe pain.
There are many reasons why your teeth can become sensitive. The biggest reason is poor dental hygiene. The tarter on your teeth from food will accumulate on the gums and will remove minerals from your tooth. If you brush your teeth too hard you are wearing the enamel. Cracks or chips can affect you as well. If you drunk a lot of acidic beverages or consume acidic foods can damage your pearly whites as well.
Most sensitivity reacts upon pressure or temperature. In many cases the most sensitivity comes from cold food or drinks. If you usually feel the pain then and all of the sudden it switches to hurting when you eat hot food this could means that the nerve in the tooth is dying. You would need to immediately see a dentist because you would need a root canal.
You can reduce the gentleness of your teeth in many ways. First and foremost you need to keep good oral hygiene. Brush at least 2 times a day and floss daily. Make sure you visit your dentist regularly. Also using a soft bristle tooth brush is important to not scratch the enamel off. Try using a desensitizing tooth paste like Synsodyne, or a fluoride rinse daily.
Just because your teeth are sensitive doesn’t mean you can’t treat them. There are many things you can do to prevent or treat this problem. You need to get a cleaning to remove any tartar build up to prevent future sensitivity. When you are finished cleaning you will get a fluoride treatment and this will block the tubules to get rid of the pain.
Another form of treatment if your case is really bad would be a root canal. This procedure can be very painful. This is to treat the inside of the tooth also known as the pulp. Once the pulp is infected it can cause your teeth to fall out, this is why its extremely important to get this procedure done if its needed.
Whitening teeth can often be hard for someone who has tender teeth. Whitening causes some level of sensitivity, but who doesn’t want whiter teeth. There are many systems that will damage the tooth, but also there are some treatments that can reduce tenderness and whiten at the same time.
If you have sensitive teeth and want to whiten your stained teeth try Aquafresh ProGentle System. This keeps sensitivity from getting in the way of the treatment. It maximizes whitening while minimizing tenderness.
