Easy Ways To Get Fiber
Fiber is one of the most important nutrients to have in your daily diet. Americans don’t get enough of fiber in their diet the average person should be getting 25 to 30 grams daily. Not getting enough fiber can result in high cholesterol, weight gain, constipation, irritable bowl syndrome, and colon cancer. Here are some ways to get more fiber in your diet.
Eat The Fruit not the juice (besides orange juice with lots of pulp) because that another excellent source of fiber. Many people rather reach for a glass of apple juice rather then grabbing an apple. But there the problem, when you drink the juice you get all the antioxidants in the fruit but you’re missing out on the fiber. High fiber fruits include; died apricots, dates, raisins, prunes, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries. Just one cup of raspberries packs 8 grams of fiber! Vegetables high in fiber include: broccoli, spinach, Swiss chard, green peas, or any dark leafy greens.
Also don’t peel the skin off fruits or vegetables because there’s more fiber in the skin or the peel. Which mean don’t peel your cucumbers, potatoes, apples, or pears. Just make sure you wash your fruit good or make sure it grown without pesticides.
Stay away from white bread. Switch to whole grain breads this bread is full of fiber making it a great choice when trying to get more fiber. When your looking at the labels on bread make sure the first ingredient listed is whole wheat, if that’s the first thing you see then you know you’re getting fiber.
Eat your breakfast. You already know it’s the most important meal of the day but its also a great way to get most of your daily fiber. Instead of buying those sugary cereals go for the ones that are made with bran such as raisin bran, Quaker oatmeal squares, fiber one, or Kellogg’s all bran. Whole grain cereals and bran flakes are packed with about 5 grams in one ¾ cup.
